Description
Mills OnLine is the only historic yet up-to-date data on state-by-state listing of all paper facilities that have operated in the U.S. since 1970. The data contain information on nearly 800 stand-alone and integrated pulp and paper mills. Currently Mills Online report 350 mills as operating, 7 mills as idled or closed, and 426 as delisted from the annual national mill directories. Geographic location and last product capacity for the 426 closed or dismantled mills provide a unique historic perspective on the evolution and restructuring of the industry.
The historic data include state, county, and city location of the mill, zip code and its center’s longitude and latitude degrees, the latest operating daily capacity (in thousand short tones) by product category, availability of a pulping facility, and corporate ownership in the case of subsidiaries. County and state statistical information is available via web link from the Census Bureau. In addition, records for the currently operating mills include their current address, phone and fax numbers.
Please note that changes in mill ownership, idled mills, closures and mill openings are current as of the end of the latest quarter; mill capacity data are from 2011 Lockwood Post’s Directory of Pulp and Paper Mills. For detailed information on data sources, explanation of variable names, product abbreviations and other terms, please see MoL Data Sources, Updates, and Term Description.
